The Names $3.94 Set against the backdrop of a lush and exotic Greece, The Names is considered the book which began to drive "sharply upward the size of his readership" ("Los Angeles Times Book Review"). Among the cast of DeLillo's bizarre yet fully realized characters in The Names are Kathryn, the narrator's estranged wife; their son, the six-year-old novelist; Owen, the scientist; and the neurotic narrator obsessed with his own neuroses. A thriller, a mystery, and still a moving examination of family, loss, and the amorphous and magical potential of language itself, The Names stands with any of DeLillo's more recent and highly acclaimed works. "The Names not only accurately reflects a portion of our contemporary world but, more importantly, creates an original world of its own."--"Chicago Sun-Times" "DeLillo sifts experience through simultaneous grids of science and poetry, analysis and clear sight, to make a high-wire prose that is voluptuously stark."--"Village Voice Literary Supplement" "DeLillo verbally examines every state of consciousness from eroticism to tourism, from the idea of America as conceived by the rest of the world to the idea of the rest of the world as conceived by America, from mysticism to fanaticism."--"New York Times" |

We Speak Your Names: A Celebration $12.8 For centuries, African American women have been remaking the world, giving testament to the power of hope, courage, and resilience. But it took the inspired generosity of Oprah Winfrey to honor fully the many gifts of sisterhood. For three amazing days-from May 13 to 15, 2005-a distinguished group of women was invited to celebrate the enduring achievements of twenty-five of their mentors and role models-and in the process pay tribute to the long, glorious tradition of African American accomplishment. The brilliant centerpiece of the weekend was the reading aloud of Pearl Cleage's poem "We Speak Your Names," written especially for the occasion and appearing here for the first time in this beautiful keepsake book. As deeply moving in print as it was during that weekend of love and praise, the poem names each of the women honored: Dr. Maya Angelou, Coretta Scott King, Diahann Carroll, Toni Morrison, Nikki Giovanni, Rosa Parks, Katherine Dunham, and other legends of the brightest magnitude. With heartfelt eloquence, Pearl Cleage (herself a luminary of the younger generation) celebrates her distinguished elders' strength, their magic, their sensuality, their loving kindness, their faith in themselves, and the priceless example of their lives. In her introduction, the poet shares: "My sisters, here, there, and everywhere, this poem is for you. Use it, adapt it, pass it on. . . ." Destined to become a classic, We Speak Your Names is a treasure to keep forever and a precious, inspiring gift for the ones you love. |

Names $4.78 In Names, Marilyn Hacker juxtaposes glimpses of contemporary lives with dialogues undertaken in signal poetic voices. Using her signature wit, passion, and mastery of received and invented forms, she convinces us to believe in a world made possible by language-prescient, playful, polyglot, and often breathtaking. from "Ghazal: The Beloved": Lines that grapple doubt, written because of the beloved: when grief subsides, what survives the loss of the beloved? Your every declaration is suspect. That was, at least, the departing gloss of the beloved. Were you merely a servant of the state or (now you give the coin a toss) of the beloved? How pure you were, resistant in an orchard. Peace with justice: the cause of the beloved. |

UK Low Carbon Summit Tomorrow
RBS and HM Govt to host event at London's Tate Modern.
Approximately 200 delegates are expected at the Tate Modern in London on 26 June 2008 for the UK Low Carbon Economy Summit - Business Opportunities in a Low Carbon Future.
The event is a joint partnership between RBS and HM Government which will bring together a highly influential group of leaders from business and government to promote the business opportunities in moving to a low carbon economy.
The event will provide a platform for informed debate between business and government on what steps need to be taken to create an environment which supports and promotes investment in low carbon solutions for energy generation, preservation and trading which will enable the UK to make the transition to a low carbon economy.
The event will focus on the opportunities for business to benefit from this transition as well as contribute to the debate on the regulatory legislative and competitive framework which will allow effective delivery in the UK.
Baba Abu, Head of Sustainable Business at RBS said: "RBS is at the forefront of renewables funding worldwide. As the world's economy makes the transition from a high to low carbon intensity we see our role as supporting our customers, and therefore society, as choices are made about the investments this requires.
The renewable energy sector offers significant opportunities for investment returns that secure the interests of both investor and sustainable development alike. Today's conference allows the leaders in the field to debate the best way to secure the investment growth we all want to see."
With a long commitment to the sector and consistently one of the leading funders of renewable energy projects globally, RBS is very much, the energy bank with over three decades of experience of lending to the energy sector. In addition to renewables, we have a broad suite of carbon finance products and services such as emissions trading.
The UK Low Carbon Summit will be opened by Sir Tom McKillop, Chairman of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group and he will welcome the keynote speakers from industry and government:
John Hutton MP - Secretary of State for Business Enterprise & Regulatory Reform, Kirsty Hamilton - Associate Fellow, Renewable Energy Finance at Chatham House, Michael Liebreich - CEO of New Energy Finance, Keith Lough - CEO of Composite Energy, John Denham MP - Secretary of State for Innovation Universities and Skills, John Pickett- Partner at Linklaters LLP, Gregor Alexander - Financial Director at Scottish and Southern Energy, Andy Jameson - Head of Energy & Natural Resources, Project Finance at RBS.
