Traumatic Incident Reduction: Research and Results $14.83 "When accessed with the specific cognitive imagery procedure of TIR, a primary traumatic incident can be stripped of its emotional charge permitting its embedded cognitive components to be revealed and restructured. With its emotional impact depleted and its irrational ideation revised, the memory of a traumatic incident becomes innocuous and thereafter remains permanently incapable of restimulation and intrusion into present time." --Robert H. Moore, Ph.D. Traumatic Incident Reduction: Research & Results provides synopses of several TIR research projects from 1994 to 2004. Each article, in the researcher's own words, provides new insights into the effectiveness of Traumatic Incident Reduction. The three doctoral dissertation level studies that form the core of this book investigate the results of TIR outcomes with crime victims, incarcerated females, and anxiety and panic disorders respectively (Bisbey, Valentine, and Coughlin). Both informal and formal reports of the "Active Ingredient" study by Charles R. Figley and Joyce Carbonell of Florida State University show how TIR stacks up against other brief treatments for traumatic stress, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) et al. A further case study by Teresa Descilo, MSW informs of outcomes from an ongoing project to provide help to at-risk middle-school students in an inner-city setting. An introduction by Robert H. Moore, Ph.D. provides background into how TIR provides relief for symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and firmly establishes the roots of TIR in the traditions of desensitization, imaginal flooding, and Rogerian techniques. This book contains the most detailed list ofTraumatic Incident Reduction and Metapsychology resources yet published. This appendix includes references to dissertations, books, selected journal articles, AMI/TIRA newsletter compendium, web resources, and the TIR and Metapsychology lecture series (audio). Includes index. "We are very impressed with the power and simplicity of TIR in helping trauma sufferers work through their frightening experiences and find great relief." - Charles R. Figley, Ph.D., editor of TRAUMATOLOGY "Being able to watch someone go from confusion to certainty, from sadness to happiness in a single session is a wonderful privilege. It is invigorating. I get the same satisfaction and joy from teaching Metapsychology techniques to others." - Lori Beth Bisbey, Ph.D., Chartered Counselling Psychologist "TIR does not require years of collegiate study to pre-qualify the provision of assistance to others. The efficacy of TIR is not contingent on the unique talents of a particular facilitator. The procedure is standardized and does not require continuous adjustments." - Wendy Coughlin, Ph.D. |

Learning Carbon $3.95 "Learning Carbon" is designed to get you programming right away in Carbon(TM), one of two APIs (Application Programmer Interfaces) Macintosh(R) programmers can use to write applications that run native in Mac(R) OS X. Using Carbon, you don't have to rewrite your Mac OS programs entirely to get them to take advantage of the new features in Mac OS X. Instead, all you have to rewrite is the 10 to 20 percent of the code that can't be translated to OS X. For C programmers, Apple's Carbon is the essential building block for applications on Mac OS X. With Carbon, you can use simple, traditional C interfaces to create world-class applications for a world-class operating system. After orienting you with a detailed tour of a Carbon application, "Learning Carbon" walks you through the entire process of designing and creating a complete Carbon application called Moon Travel Planner. Along the way, you'll be introduced to two pivotal development tools: Project Builder and Interface Builder. You'll learn key concepts about Carbon and Mac OS X programming, including event management, resource handling, and bundle anatomy. And you'll get direct, hands-on instruction on how to implement essential application tasks, such as managing windows, printing documents, opening and saving files, creating and responding to menu commands, providing user help, and organizing your application for easy localization in multiple countries and languages. After finishing this book, you'll be ready to start writing your own Carbon applications. Written by Apple insiders with access to engineers deeply involved in creating Mac OS X, "Learning Carbon" brings you information that's not available anywhere else, to getyou in on the ground floor of the exciting new Mac OS X application development market. |

Carbon Trading Law and Practice $199.42 In Carbon Trading Law and Practice, author Scott D. Deatherage provides practitioners with a comprehensive practical guide to the US and international practice of carbon emissions trading. The book includes a comprehensive examination of climate change, emissions trading, international and EU law, other reduction programs, carbon credit financing, and the US regulatory regime for emissions trading. The use of market-based systems as a means of regulating emissions and other environmental pollution or degradation is a growing phenomenon. As nations and states appear to be responding to scientific pronouncements regarding the existence and causes of climate change, environmental markets appear to be one of the main tools that will be used to address greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon Trading Law and Practice provides the fundamental explanation and the underlying legal systems and issues that serve to create and sustain carbon credit creation and the trading of these credits, and a series of related legal and business issues. |

‘Green Office' Podcast Sheds New Light On Carbon Reduction
A lighting expert from the University of Sheffield reveals how 20 per cent could be knocked off workplace energy bills – providing significant environmental benefits with little change to the comfort of occupants – in the latest episode of the Green Office podcast, from office design experts Morgan Lovell.
According to Dr Steve Fotios, a senior lecturer of Environmental Design and Sustainability at the University's School of Architecture, reducing the recommended lux level for office lighting from 500 down to 400 could have a major impact on reducing energy consumption.
For 15 years, Dr Fotios has been researching ways to reduce lighting levels whilst maintaining brightness.
Dr Fotios said: "We could try to encourage better use of daylight, that's perfect, it's a way forward – but it's a long term strategy.
"An alternative that we can apply pretty much immediately is to reduce the light levels, from the lux level of 500 down to 400 or 300.
"A reduction of 500 lux to 400 would save approximately 20 per cent of the energy, depending on the installation – and by changing the spectrum of lamps, for example from warm white to cool white, would maintain the brightness of a space, but still reduce energy consumption."
The podcast is the third in the Green Office series, being produced bi-monthly by office fit out specialists Morgan Lovell.
Listeners can hear about the latest trends, technology and people in the world of green office design.
A podcast is a pre-recorded ‘radio show' that is posted for download on the internet, typically on iTunes. Users subscribe to a podcast and download individual ‘episodes' to their iPods or MP3 players to listen while commuting, exercising or at home.
