Don't Have the Right Drinking Water Filter? You Could Be Drinking Parasites and Traces of Drugs

How gross is that?

If you think that you don't need drinking water filters, you should rethink that. Without a good drinking water filter, you could be ingesting synthetic chemicals, traces of prescription drugs and hormones, parasites and countless other health threatening compounds.

So, you think that bottled is better? It's not. It comes from a faucet somewhere. The contents cannot be determined by reading the label.

The plastic is adding to our already strained landfills. It takes more water to make the plastic than the bottle contains. And, the companies use petroleum both in production and transportation, so they are contributing to global warming and straining our natural resources.

Many experts are recommending drinking water filters as a healthy and inexpensive alternative. If you choose a system with certified performance, then you know that what you are getting is pure. The only thing that gets thrown away is the replacement cartridge, which last 3-6 months in the better systems.

But, a drinking water filter may not be all that you need. You have to remember that chlorine vaporizes in the shower and can trigger asthma attacks and aggravate sinus and respiratory problems. Chlorine by-products, known as THMs, are also present in the steam and they are known to cause cancer, as well as other health problems. So, a shower or whole house filter actually offers more protection, but that's your choice to make.

Many experts believe that cancer is a man made disease that is almost completely preventable. We have identified thousands of carcinogens, avoiding them is entirely possible, if you are careful.

The treatment facilities were never designed to remove chemicals contaminants. Most of them are water-soluble, so they will go wherever the pipes go. The only way to avoid the risk to your health is with drinking water filters that trap chemicals as the water passes over them.

An activated carbon or a carbon block drinking water filter performs like that. Other systems do not. The technology is considered the most advanced on the market, even though the "idea" came about in World War I, when carbon masks were used to prevent the inhalation of chlorine gas, an early chemical weapon. The gas caused respiratory irritation, coughing, water eyes and could cause death.

Just think about it. The vapors in your bathroom were used as weapons. Do you really want to expose yourself or your family to that? Probably not and that's why shower filters may be even more important than drinking water filters. Some of the better companies make both.

In case we need to make a better case for the under appreciated drinking water filter, let's talk about lead. This toxic metal lines pipes and has been used to solder joints. Thus, it is seeping into your house through your kitchen faucet.

You might think that the government would protect you from things like that, but they say that the problem is yours to deal with. They did for a brief time shut down public drinking fountains, but that's about it.

The bad news is there is no safe level for lead consumption. It causes brain damage, learning disabilities and a multitude of other health problems. You can have your water tested or you can simply invest in shower and drinking water filters that block lead. Once again, the choice is yours.
