Discover How To Use Your MXR Carbon Copy Delay Pedal
As a altogether, guitarists lean to favor straight forward gear. As such, they wish their guitar stompboxes to be very straight forward to operate. Because of this, most stompboxes only have 1-3 knobs. But occasionally even three knobs can be daunting. The best way to deal with these worries is to get in there and begin twisting the knobs on your stompboxes. The MXR Carbon Copy is the perfect illustration of an easy-to-use, yet wonderful sounding pedal.
Insert the Carbon Copy into your signal chain.
Instead of just plugging your guitar straight into your amp, you need to plug it into the Carbon Copy first. After that, merely go from the Carbon Copy to your guitar amp.
If you have other stompboxes in your signal chain you will need to determine where to patch in the Carbon Copy. Like most guitarists, I always put my delay stompboxes at the end of my chain, preceeded by compressors and distortion.
Understanding what each control does.
Delay:
The Delay knob allows you to change the amount of delay time from 20ms (fully counter-clockwise) to 600ms (fully clockwise).
Regen:
The Regen knob allows you to set the total of delay repeats from one (fully counter-clockwise) to infinite (fully clockwise). This control functions in conjunction with the Delay knob so the amount of Regen varies based on your Delay setting.
Mix:
The Mix knob allows you to vary the portion of delayed, or “wet”, signal from fully dry (fully counter-clockwise) to equivalent amounts of wet and dry (fully clockwise).
Mod:
The Modulation button allows you to add a certain portion of modulation to the delayed guitar signal. Modulation is an effect that changes the pitch of a signal by a tiny, consistently occurring amount, creating a warbling effect.
There are two internal trim pots that provide you to vary the width and rate controls of the modulation effect.
Effect on/off switch:
Like most guitar pedals, the MXR Carbon Copy has a foot-switch that toggles on and off.
Some Suggestions:
Start with the Delay and Mix knobs place completely clockwise and the Regen knob set complete counter-clockwise. Turn the pedal on by stepping on the footswitch. A blue LED illuminates when the effect is engaged. Now all you need to do is dial in your desired sound by adjusting the three knobs in relative to each other.
Don’t allow a deficiency of experience stop you from twisting those knobs. Don’t ever be afraid of “happy accidents”.
